a human pattern is to ask a question, then iterate and follow up.

Except most don't do the "follow up" bit because

- they can't be bothered
- they are working in some company which prohibits posting
- they abandoned the project
- they are working on a product and don't want to give away too much

BTW you can find out a lot about someone by googling on their forum nickname :) I regularly do this on the one I run, where the poster was quite smart but probably malicious.

Also there are sites which can identify ChatGPT output with a high probability.

Yeah, it's pretty tight, those screws would support the internal stuff were it 'real', so maybe some nuts are in order to hold them in place.

I'll PM you from here on out to avoid filling this thread with off-topic stuff. :)

For me all this is an example for the difficulties in human communication. We always think we understand the other person, but we don't. Everybody has his own sense of humor.
We have some super contributors here who have never been decent starting from their first posts and it only got worse with their mounting number of posts. Quantity doesn't mean quality. Maybe there should be a rule that contributors with more than 10 000 posts or more than 5 posts per day should not disturb forum beginners without first looking into his/her profile and understanding a little what is going on.
By the way, the OP posted about his offers in the Buy/Sell/Wanted section. In general people not interested in the offers don't comment, at least there won't be an engineering discussion.

Hello all.

It's a wonderful machine when it runs properly!

I have the following error when the device finishes the self-test:
ERRSTR 202, “HARDWARE FAILURE – SLAVE TEST: DC BOARD”

No other errors reported.

No output is given at any measurement, the screen stays blank without any number. Even TRIG didn't trigger.

We sent the device for service at Keysight and asked for "only" $7.5k to replace the DC Board and A/D board plus a calibration. I didn't foresee such a bill. So I didn't do the repair. It's such a valuable device to sit as a paper-weight though. Please help me get it running again.

Here are the faults reported by Keysight:
Time out unable to read A/D. Cal value Out of Range "95"

Can anyone who knows this device explain what this means?

I have started probing around in the device last week, and so far I have found that U2 (buffer that controls input relays) is not working, this failure could explain the DC BOARD error. I have suspicion that this is not the only problem!

Please note that this is a device I bought brand new and it was never tampered with before this incident.

Every instrument needs a web server built in.  This is just an amazing and powerful feature that they would change the landscape by including web control/monitoring in their entire product line.

Please no. If you want web server, you can use SBC computer for that

WiFi dongle support for the SDS800X HD Series.   :-+

omg, only as external option. It produce a lot of interference. This is not good for measurement equipment.

Note that there are different rules around shipping batteries by themselves vs shipping a product that contains a battery.  Also country of origin and destination matter as well.

I had a box of 1000 individually packaged 500mAh Li-Poly batteries shipped to my door from China with no questions asked and no extra handling.  But when I tried to ship 3 of those batteries to the Netherlands for testing and characterization I got rejected by UPS, FedEx, and the USPS.  Only DHL would accept that shipment.  None of the restrictions would have been in play if I had just shipped the batteries as part of a product.

Beginners / Re: cable shield to PCB?
« Last post by Kim Christensen on Today at 05:33:51 am »
I like the design of shielded modular connectors like RJ-45/ethernet. Where you fold the shield back and then crimp a C shape conductor around it.

Your easiest and most economical option would be to use shielded CAT-5 cable (probably stranded) and the appropriate connectors.
What's the brand and part number of your cable? Unless it's something standard, like CAT-5, you're not going to find a crimp connector or termination for it.
You don't mention what kind of signals this cable will be carrying. The higher the frequency, the more difficult it becomes to do right.
Raychem makes shield terminations, but they are damn expensive. You can do something similar with heatshrink and wire but it's more tedious:
