Test Equipment / Re: Anyone experience with TM-600 VDSL2 testing device
« Last post by finos on Today at 08:20:12 pm »
Hi securipole,

Yes, I was able to acquire the instrument and used it to verify extensions during a VDSL rollout. It does work OK, detailed results can be recorded(max 100 measurements) and later printed/saved for logging purposes. Also useful as tool to verify customer issues independent from their equipment and limitations on what can be reported. The instrument has also some general tools on board specific for phone lines.
Unfortunately the reporting is rather basic so graphs only in black and white for now( might be improved in the mean time )
The instrument is just a little bigger than a regular DMM so can easily be used in the field. One drawback however is the LCD screen that can be difficult to read in plain sunlight.
It is not top of the line, however very affordable and well capable for its purpose.

Eric

Hello everyone , sorry for digging up such a old thread but this was the only info i found online about this instrument .

I got my hands on a  TM600p VDSL tester (model V2.900TOVC) It's (for its price) a good machine that has already helped me quite a bit.
But, as is often the case with Chinese electronics, documentation and support are simply non-existent.

I have read the instruction manual cover to cover many times, but I cannot figure out the following:

  • How to delete saved records: Despite searching extensively through the manual, I can't seem to find any instructions on how to delete saved records from the device. This is crucial for managing storage space and keeping the data organized.
  • PPP not working over an ADSL2 line: I've encountered an issue where PPP (Point-to-Point Protocol) does not seem to work over an ADSL2 line. However, it works perfectly fine on a VDSL2 line. The VLAN used here for VDSL is set and also the VCI/VPI values for ADSL2. Is there a specific configuration or setting that I'm missing to enable PPP over ADSL2?
  • Can the device make a PPP dial from its Ethernet port? This would be a life saver when dealing with FTTP ONTs ,The seller mentioned that it's possible for the device to make a PPP dial from its Ethernet port, but I can't seem to find any information on how to do this in the manual. If this feature exists, it would greatly enhance the flexibility and functionality of the device for my needs.
  • When in Telephone dial mode, the device immediately plays the dtmf  tone , dials the numbers entered, Is there a way to completely input the number , and then press a button for the device to send
in  one shot the DTMF tones, allowing for better control and troubleshooting?
  • Does the device, when in "modem" mode, operate as a transperant DSL-to-Ethernet bridge? I want to know if the device, when set to "modem" mode, functions solely as a bridge, essentially acting as a modem and passing the DSL line directly through to the Ethernet port for connecting other tools to diagnose higher OSI problems . Also , if i exit to for example back to the line menu to check for line errors (fec sec crc) will this bridge still be operational ?

Any assistance or insights you can provide on these issues would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your help!

Best regards

Beginners / Re: refence input impedance on counter
« Last post by CaptDon on Today at 08:19:22 pm »
The worst that could happen is reflections which if big enough in amplitude could make your counter think it had a 20MHz input when in fact you were feeding 10MHz from your frequency standard into your counter's reference input. And only about a .01% chance anyone has ever had that issue!!

Repair / Re: Brother MFC-8860DN repair attempt: "paper tray not detected"
« Last post by Kadano on Today at 08:18:27 pm »
Sorry that this didn't help. Can you set the machine in Maintenance 32 on the "C1P1C2P2....." line and see if the sensors actually work or not? For instance remove the paper and see if "P1" changes. You also mentioned that before total failure you could make it work by pressing the tray, could it be that for some mechanical reason the tray just doesn't go in far enough? Also, inspect the tray for any clues where there might me some tab that is used by the sensor, and take a flashlight to inspect the inside of the printer where the tray is supposed to go.

I tested the sensors in Maintenance 32 before, P1 toggles on and off when I press the paper sensor upwards (circled in pink in the photo below), but C1 is off most of the time, randomly turning on for a split second (and very rarely, even for a few minutes, but even when not touching or moving the printer in any way, it will suddenly disappear again, with the printer making its "paper tray removed" warning sounds).

Apart from the paper sensors, I really can't see anything here that looks like it might detect the presence of the paper key.

The Vcc post is either a feedthru capacitor or an LC filter in a similar package.

And for those with short memories think of all the scoffing when SpaceX got a competing contract.  All the industry experts were saying that the huge advantage given by Boeing's history and expertise in spacecraft would result in a better product and earlier, making the SpaceX contract a waste of money.

For an application, I need a distance measuring sensor that has 0.1mm accuracy and no worse and can measure upto 4m easily. It will need to be incorporated into a design with a microcontroller so I can make use of the data. I have not been able to find something that matches these requirements.

The table saw contains a fence and is used in woodworking. All table saws have it. I need a sensor that help me measure the distance between the sensor and the table saw fence. This is the application.

Does anyone know what type of sensor I could use? Maybe you have done a project of such nature already.

Hi there, I need one or several HP Logo Pins as I get new equipment several of them are without the pin. I tried finding them online but I can't find any. I'm located in the US, see picture for details.

Sounds like a great service, but you really need a fully-fluent, human, electronics-savvy Chinese-to-English translator to write the English text, because it’s really unclear right now. The requirements are not really understandable. :(

I think the real issue with the pill is battery life.  Checking fermentation state while brewing is only a few days even if you toss it in at the start.

Every time you open the pill to change batteries you will have to reclean and sterilize and maintain that cleanliness through insertion.  Also how easy is it to remove?

Removing it might be tricky.

It's powered by a rather honest looking 2800mAh 18650.  I have it set to connect to Wifi, run 5 or 6 readings once a second and sleep for 10 minutes.

It has a built in battery monitor, but I haven't worked out it's calibration yet.  It started at 3.4V for a 4.2V cell and it's now showing 3.2V 2 days later.  I don't know if that is a 0.8V constant drop or just proportionality for the ESP8266 ADC.

Battery life TBC.

Repair / soundtracks PC midi mixer problem
« Last post by newtronica on Today at 08:07:44 pm »
Hello Everyone,
I've got an old soundtracks PC midi mixer which works fine for all the analogue bits but I'm having a strange problem with the Z80 controlled midi mute automation. I don't know anything about this side of electronics but tried some basic fault finding and doing things like changing all the electrolytic and the shitty ic holders. The weird thing is that after working on the board and say replacing an ic holder when I power it up it works fine and will continue to do so but if I turn the mixer off and on again it doesn't work. I know it uses a few inverter logic chips that start things on low so thought that this may be the cause. I'm sort of just replacing things until it works but no luck so far! It uses a z80 processor with a 4mhz crystal. I just find it weird that after I change/replace things and any residual power is reset it works but next time it doesn't. Any general ideas?
Thanks
Joe
