This is unhinged, comparing hatred of politicians to racism is a new crazy to me.  Hating politicians is a political opinion and it isn't anything close to being racist or sexist.

I mean, it's a strange position to hold a hatred of all politicians given there are certain to be some morally good ones in the swamp, but I don't think it's even close to comparable to any statement such as hatred towards someone because of their race or ethnic origins.

And, a politician can just stop being a politician at any time, as many do.  You can't stop being black or being female (biologically).
I agree, I made no such comparison.

Hatred of people for the color of their skin or uniform is the same thing. Trust me, each one can be peeled off, one more painfully than the other.

I'm just letting this speak for itself.

Sigh, you brought up some straw man argument that I didn't make.

I reference back the original post.

If you can't grasp the difference between some flippant statement of "I hate all politicians" what is characterized of all people working for a government agency then I can't help you.

I personally have experienced racism, hatred due to religion, and hatred due to other factors.  None of them seemed to me to be less hate.

In many parts of the US, including the parts I come from, sheriffs, judges, and many LE officials ARE elected. They are political positions. Occupations. People CHOOSE to do these things and they are agents of government policy by choice. No one is FORCED to be a cop (at least I hope not).

You're the one out here making the claim that interchanging "LEO" with "African" or some other racial identity is EXACTLY equivalent. This is what I was responding to:
Quote
If you want to see them in a new light, replace the words "cops", "ice" "leos" and so on with "indian", "african" "latino" or any other word used to label a group of people.

This is bonkers. No. No, they are not equivalent. Not legally and not morally. That's all.

Again, you are extrapolating or projecting. I said hate is hate and tolerance of it is wrong.  You want to stand on some high ground and claim your hate is ok?
What level of hate is ok?

I didn't argue that sheriffs aren't politicians did I?  Strawman?
Just say you're ok with hatred and move on.  There's no need to come after me because I disagree.

Is hatred of religion ok?  I mean, no one is forced to believe what they believe.

Has anybody tried an experiment to see how fleabay is handling the USA import tariffs nowadays?

Maybe something like create a dummy item for sale at £/$/€50 in your home country, with GSP shipping to the US  and to Canada. Put it up for sale, then look at the total price in the USA and Canada.

Then duplicate the item except indicating it is made in China etc.
There are lies, damned lies, statistics - and ADC/DAC specs.

It appears the markets are getting hammered on the doubts around tariffs with the legal findings recently.

As I've said here. The wish to stop or hamstring the administration will have bad outcomes themselves. Trump created chaos and those opposed have poured gas on it.

There is some info here already; https://www.ebay.co.uk/sellercentre/global-sales/us-tariffs

The limitations of feeBay™ enforced local delivery services (for private sellers) are already a problem here, as you can't give a more accurate parcel weight in a listing, or change it after it sells & you've packed it.
For example an item weighing 3kg has to go as a 10kg parcel, this will make the international shipping way overpriced, putting off even more potential buyers.
An item selling for more than £100 automatically gets a higher postage rate too.

I've no idea what sellers have to do for items weighting over 30kg, which some of my test gear is, I've imported one or two things over 30kg in the past.

Yes, I've seen that but I'd still like to see exactly what that means in practice to people in the USA.

In the UK I have split a delivery in to two bits, and sent it as a Royal Mail (?Parcel Force?) "consignment". That was cheaper since they knew there was only single time/place/van/driver.

@tom66
The hinge is hate. You can change your religion, but personally, I don't think it is ok to hate people because of their religion. I've been hated because of mine, and I guess. I should just change, right?

People change their pronouns, is it ok to hate them? Some people change their sexual preferences throughout life. When is it ok to hate them?

Have you ever heard of the term "creed" (not the band)?  It's latin for "I believe".  You might be surprised to find out its protected.

Apply for employement is a proteced activity. See the Civil Rights Act of 1968 in the US. Snip below from wikipedia.

Title I of the Civil Rights Act of 1968, enacted 18 U.S.C. § 245(b)(2), permits federal prosecution of anyone who "willfully injures, intimidates or interferes with, or attempts to injure, intimidate or interfere with ... any person because of his race, color, religion or national origin"[1] or because of the victim's attempt to engage in one of six types of federally protected activities, such as attending school, patronizing a public place/facility, applying for employment, acting as a juror in a state court, or voting.

People convicted of violating this law face a fine or imprisonment of up to one year, or both. If bodily injury results or if such acts of intimidation involve the use of firearms, explosives or fire, individuals can receive prison terms of up to 10 years, while crimes involving kidnapping, sexual assault, or murder can be punishable by life in prison or the death penalty.

A Canadian retailer is filing for bankruptcy over the elimination of de minimis exemptions.
The elimination of the exemption wasn't found illegal by the recent court findings. Only economic pressure might change that, but given the removal is applauded by US-based retailers, I doubt there's going to be a significant amount of pressure.

https://www.cnbc.com/2025/09/02/what-trump-court-loss-means-for-billions-in-tariffs-paid-to-government.html

They would say they believe they will win. What is worrisome is "the administration has a backup plan if it does not."
Many people will be pleased with the SCOTUS ruling, regardless of the outcome.  Millions at least on each side. They hate each other.

A friend of mine, before he passed away, predicted that we were near a major calamity in the US, on the level of the Civil War. I thought he was full of it. I told him that I believed that humans were genuinely good at their core and that cooler heads would prevail.

I have changed my mind after watching more. Hearing more, wondering where the hate will stop. Big companies like Facebook, Google, X, and all social platforms benefit from hate. Seeing the data analysis of traffic around hate was a massive moment of enlightenment for me.  Sadly, there doesn't appear to be a cure. When I worked during the waning years ARPA/DARPA networks, we talked excitedly about the Internet. We thought about how great it would be when knowledge is instantly available. Boy, did we get it wrong.

I don't know if I should laugh or cry that Fermi's Great Filter could be social media.

With your people's treatment of others including people in my family, I see your statements of bigotry as not surprising.

If you want to see them in a new light, replace the words "cops", "ice" "leos" and so on with "indian", "african" "latino" or any other word used to label a group of people.

These are not equivalent identities morally or legally. No one can help the fact they are Indian, or African, or Latino. That's why the USA defines these things (as well as disability, age, etc) as protected classes against discrimination.

There is no universe in which a song hating on taxmen as a group (by the Beatles) is equivalent to a song hating on Africans...  :P

I don't believe you know what a protected class is by US law. Last I checked, it is is defined in the EOCC:
race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, and genetic information
pregnancy, sexual orientation, and gender identity are also included.

Hatred of people for the color of their skin or uniform is the same thing. Trust me, each one can be peeled off, one more painfully than the other.

The Beatles would be offended that you did that, you know that right? Defense of generalized hatred is disgusting. What excuses will you raise to allow more?
Cheers

Where is occupation on that list? No one bats an eye when anyone say "I hate all politicians."

Lol
Ok Boomer
I knew you wouldn't get it. Hate is hate man.

You know that the acceptance of hatred is a primary cause of violence acted out on the people that you accept hatred for? Probably not. Move along.

Why don't you shut up for 5 seconds and let someone else get a word in edgeways in-between your insults.

I didn't start the insults but I assume something I said got you in the feels. The police are here.

I never did like "The Police"! Sting is a pretty good singer, but the band? Not my cup of tea! ;D

Oh come on, from the greatest of stalker songs of all time to some solid tunes about a teacher and his pupils.

Eddie Murphy singing Roxanne in 48 Hours is a classic.

Didn't know that.  And given my call of some of the nature of the songs, the coincidence keeps coming. The article says this:
"It was later recognised as the most-played radio song of all time and was heavily sampled on P Diddy and Faith Evans' 1997 song I'll Be Missing You."

I'm not sure, having not listened to his music, but I must admit, given his courtroom time and this sidebar, it's rather comical.

Finally got my package off UPS to USA (from Aust).   It cost the owner a pretty penny $170 Aud and he will be hit with ~$15'ish tariffs.  I used to ship similar packages, with same type repaired boards, for $70 AUD, no tariffs.

So I guess its an own Goal for the administration.  I hope the US people can persuade this to change.

edit: funniest part....i just ordered new parts from Digikey, they get here by UPS not tariff cheap post.

The administration, their friends, and its financial backers will benefit because the import taxes will be used to fund tax reductions for the wealthy.

There is evidence the US sheeple can be tricked into believing that T'rump's policies will benefit them.

Anyone buying something overseas will notice. Internal price increases tend to be noticed less, especially while local industries make claims about the virtues of local buying or employment.
