While ED, who I believe is [...]

Just discuss tariffs without making it personal about posters. If you have an issue with their argument then present the refutal without making it personal.

If you think someone's view is wrong then show why it is, without insulting them or it being about them.

Seriously, all of the  blowback you get here is because you seem not to be able to discuss things unless you make it about the other person and not their argument.

I've tried to discuss things in a non-personal way, but was told I must take personal responsibility for my country and my president.

You yourself have personally attacked me and my intelligence, but didn't address my arguments. Many, many times.

These fears of Donald Trump seem personal. I can't imagine how fear can be impersonal. I sit here in another country (Canada) right this minute, and as I posted, I am breaking bread with people whom I just met today. As we chatted, we discussed world topics, and as it was related, I brought up ED's post.  They believe it's personal when a fellow Canadian projects their country that way.

Krish2387 says you don't have a brain cell if you're not afraid of Donald Trump; that's not personal.

At the same time, you find my posts inflammatory, you don't see any issues with Krish's obvious flame-bait post? Are we supposed to say that Krish's post is about his concerns on tariffs or to incite people?  What's the purpose of the continued bashing if it's not personal?

Do you believe these posts about the Iran war from ED were about tariffs?

For ED, I directly addressed their argument. That was, Canada and Carney only approve of the US action in Iran because of fear. I reject that as an argument because:
A. Lots of Canadians and Politicians in Canada are in opposition to and announced opposition to the actions in Iran. They don't seem to be impacted by this fear.
B. All of the conversations I've had here on the streets of Canada have indicated there's no fear of Trump.  Literally, people are asking me, "Why would we fear our closest ally?"

As I have been asked, and I accept responsibility for my country, my leaders, and their actions, I expect the same from my fellow posters here. Is that objectionable?

Agree on all counts except anyone being scared. It's insane they elected a geriatric basket case like trump. The rumor is he wears adult diapers and routinely craps himself. People moving away and holding their nose in many pictures. I'm not sure it can get any more embarrassing. It's just sad.

Thats precisely my point. He is a symptom, not the cause. The cause is a majority of Americans who voted him into power - twice.
Noone has held him accountable for the clusterfuck he has caused since his second term - his staff and cabinet mock, flout, disobey congress and judiciary with impunity.
None of them have faced any consequences..

We are one bad day away from him using the nuclear football, and there is no TACO aspect about it.. no takebacks.. so yeah... unless America grows a spine.. we should be scared..

America needs a political reset.  Neither party works for the electorate.
The cost of running for POTUS is up to $5bn of which the majority comes from large value donors not ordinary citizens.
Senators & house members can trade on insider information with impunity.
Lobbyists dictate policy, often defeating bills and policies that the electorate strongly support.
(Example: policies that would allow employers to declare income to IRS directly, lobbied against by Intuit for obvious reasons.)

The only way you fix what led to Trump is to severely restrict lobbying, repeal Citizens United and eliminate PACs, limit donations to ~$1,000 per person and per corporation, and fix the electoral system so that third parties have a chance.

Until then you're going to keep getting bad politicians.

Oh, I think we should just have a set measure to get on the ballot, and the taxpayers give each candidate a set amount of money, a set amount of time on the airwaves, and then vote.  I'd also prefer a ranked-choice voting system so that ballots cast for people are more likely to be applied toward common ground.

Yes, I allowed you to goad me into doing that, although it hasn't been many times at all. And I have pointed out your argument failures (typically where you post a link alleging it says something when it doesn't). Suggesting you read the links you post to make sure they say what you think they do, or postulating how you got to post them, is not a personal attack.

So, now we are clear on all this, can we just stop with the personal shit and make coherent non-personal arguments? Tit for tat, he did it so I can, is not going to improve matters.

Hmm; publicly-financed elections and ranked-choice voting (rather than winner-takes-all):
How uncommonly progressive of you.

TLD? If we are all clear that personal and nonsense crap stops, I'm good too.

I'm not attacking you, but giving some perspective from the other side of the monitor.

You most recently engaged with me as it appeared you took exception to my negative views of China, that those views and my posting that those invested financially or emotionally might feel the pinch, as China certainly does. You came after me personally to "take some grains," as you say. To add to that, you added that I somehow inflated the USA and that this is somehow an attack on those who oppose the USA and support China. It's not an attack; it's just the facts of the current situation in trade between the US and China. You also said I had alternative facts, but I'm not sure what those were, as you didn't address them in your attacks on me.

Several times, you stepped in between subthreads with other members to take a swipe, and though you didn't exactly swipe this last time, you called me out for personal attacks in this last instance of interceding. On more than one occasion, you came after me to set down your views and judgment on my subtext and views without engaging in conversation. Just blatant crap bombs with no intent to discuss or debate the issues. So yes, I see most, if not all, of your comments towards me over the past few pages as your attempt to insert yourself into subthreads and attack me. The "edit for peace" post was originally another attack, and thankfully, you changed it.

You didn't come riding in and say "Woah folks, let's all stop with the personal attacks and country bashing". You only directed that at me initially, and I'm not sure about this last post.

In another subthread, you didn't understand me taking that responsibility and then asked me what I was going to do about it because I was replying to someone else, and you jumped between us.  Then, when I asked you what penance you demand, you said you didn't ask me to take responsibility, which you didn't, the other person I was talking to implied I should. But I can only assume you have read the context, and so I ask what penance you demand.

I'd ask the same. Can we all stop with the bashing, personal attacks, and nonsense to be inflammatory?

Let me give you an example of my view on the argument you made about "trade partner".

I had said that describing China as a "partner" to Germany doesn't make sense, given the obvious trade imbalance between them and the substantial complaints currently being discussed by the German leadership with China on that topic. I realize the argument is nuanced, and I've seen you have nuanced discussions or at least accept that the particulars matter. I posted a link to an article that described how bad that "partnership" is, and the only response was "look, they said partner in the article," and then going on about my inabilities without actually addressing the argument I was making. If you didn't understand the argument, I would have gladly elaborated.

ED is more than welcome to portray his arguments. He's made a few factual statements, but mostly he's announced his feelings and subjective points of view. I can only use the subjective points of view that I am encountering in their country to counter that, as I don't believe ED's is the more prevalent.

Do you feel any of this is a personal attack?

I don't want to rake over cold coals but there are a couple of misconceptions there that need clearing up, or are false.

1: "In another subthread, you didn't understand me taking that responsibility and then asked me what I was going to do about it because I was replying to someone else, and you jumped between us."

I asked what you meant by 'taking responsibility' because, as I noted, usually it seems to be empty words. I was aware of the context, but that doesn't change that I had no clue as to what you meant (and still don't). You may have been conversing with someone else, but this is an open forum and ones doesn't need to be actively part of a conversation to be able to say something or ask a question.

2. "I posted a link to an article that described how bad that "partnership" is, and the only response was "look, they said partner in the article," and then going on about my inabilities without actually addressing the argument I was making."

Your argument was that China isn't "the largest trading "Partner" of Germany", and posted a link supposedly in support of that assertion. I highlighted a quote from that link that literally said "with China replacing the US as Germany's top trading partner". Note: not just 'partner' but top trading partner. That certainly looks to me like it is not saying what you expected it to say - it negates your supposition rather than supports it.

ED is more than welcome to portray his arguments.

Just one teensy tiny note and then I'll get out of the way:

When I see you writing "ED" the first thing that comes into my mind is "erectile dysfunction".
Or someone named "Ed" who capitalizes his name.
Since you're referring to @Electrodynamic, maybe you ought to write that instead.
Not sure others will know who "ED" is either.

Now back to our regularly scheduled wrestling match ...

I have no intent to start flames either. I am trying to debate the arguments, or at least make sure they are clear, without any personal attacks.

In the spirit of clearing the air and trying to complete communications challenges. I am responsible for my communications, and if they aren't communicated well, I take responsibility for that also. I would appreciate the gesture of asking for clarification when it may not be clear enough.

When talking to Steve, I owned my responsibility for my country and its leaders. You implied that this ownership was empty unless explained in detail.
I asked, in a roundabout way, what penance (detail) you needed. An example of yours might do. Of course, since the level of rhetoric was fairly warm at the time, my examples were rather provocative.

As you say here in this quote, though, you didn't ask me to take responsibility, so I dropped the thread as just another needling, and I considered it just a case of keeping the argument alive for its own sake. As you say, it's an open forum, and I disengaged.
How can I give penance in your eyes? Gun to the head, poison, shackles, whips.

Not only am I not after penance, I've not asked for you to take responsibility for anything.

I was asking what you meant by that phrase. Was it just empty words or did you have something in mind?

As for the China and Germany "partnership," I specifically quoted the word "partner" and called it inaccurate in my view of their relationship.
This is the nuance I mentioned. I have no issue and, to my understanding, didn't try to deny the trading partners' ranks.  I'm trying to say that a good partnership is typically much closer to 50/50, or at least amicable, between the "partners." The article made it very clear that German leadership does not believe it is fair or amicable.
But I have to challenge you on the facts here. China isn't the largest trading "Partner" of Germany. "Partner" suggests it is not one-sided, though it very much is in their relationship.

The last one was where I called out the common definition and current view that a "nationalist" isn't a great thing to be called in our modern era. The links to the definitions of "nationalist" and my references to them, believing in Nationalism, are clear, I believe. I don't know where you were with your views on the arguments, or if you were just poking at me to poke back.  I was trying to provide ElectroDynamic information about his claim of Nationalist, and that generally it's not a very complimentary description of a person's views, since today people take it to mean you feel you're better than others, and your people are better.

This is why I felt trolled. Not engaging in my arguments but taunting me as if there was some victory or my take on these items. From my side, it looked like a drive-by shooting with no significant resolution intended or created except to score points for a team.

If you now go back and look at the ElectroDynamic posts over these past few pages. It's a repeat.  Some true facts about Trump, some bashing of the US. No acceptance that his country supports Iran's actions, and a complete lack of acceptance that outsiders see some significant problems with some of Canada's own trade paradigms.

Krish came to repeat those same claims and add what I can only call lies since I am not aware of convictions by peers of the crimes he claimed. I don't think Trump is a good person. I don't like him, but in my country, you are innocent until proven guilty by peers. Luckily, in my country, Krish would have the right to make those accusations without being sued too.

Lastly, I'll harken back to a point you made. I appreciated it outright because it calls out the nature of this thread. I pointed out that the original poster's intention was to chat about how US people would handle their EE projects, given that US tariffs would substantially affect the availability and affordability of components.
The recent posts have nothing to do with this, and that's just as much my fault as the rest. This thread had died out till the SCOTUS ruling kicked it back up. I think people see everything in too black-and-white terms and believe that the US trade negotiations have been universally bad for everyone. The data doesn't really point to that, though. It points to higher prices in the US and lower exports in China. Most nations have increased their exports to the US to backfill the lost trade with China, and many are also importing more goods from China at lower prices because China is trying to get those goods out to somewhere.

The biggest impact on folks likely bouncing around here is the loss of de minimus, and I really, really miss it, but I understand why it was unfair in some ways, too.

Whew, that's a wall. If you have corrections or want to challenge any of that, I'm fine with that. I don't need us to agree. I just don't want to be judged separately or by different sticks from the rest of the folks here, and I don't want my views to be assumed.

Indeed and few want to acknowledge the elephant in the room.

It seems as if the rule of law has been completely abandoned. More so when any people who break the law to do their leaders bidding have been told they can be pardoned. Now they are saying the quiet part out load.

It's descended to just a few members slingin' mud at each other in violation of EEVblog's policy on personal attack and insults.

Wallace, I know you didn't call me out directly, but I can imagine you are pointing at me.
I'd sure be paying my fair share of mud-slinging tariffs, as would the vast majority of people in this thread.

As the thread reappeared, I took a fresh look at the impacts of tariffs and trade adjustments. Way back, I predicted what would happen when SCOTUS shot down Trump's current legal theory for blanket tariffs, and that has come to fruition.

I've posted a lot of details from around the world that seem to indicate good news about the impacts on many US trading nations. That was met with a lot of passionate feelings, but seemingly no arguments that the facts as I presented were wrong. It's very frustrating to sort through people's feelings when they don't really have any arguments about the facts. There appears to be no better venue for people to express feelings than here.

Tariffs are horrible in my view. The Milk Cartel in Canada, just like the Oil Cartel in the Middle East, is horrible and wrong, and I am not a defender of the US president, though it is my president, given my citizenship, so I'm not ducking that responsibility as discussed recently.

I don't understand all the hate and feelings, and that's likely due to my autism.

It was suggested that we eliminate personal attacks, but it only seemed to direct them at me. And attacks of a personal nature in a general sense towards the whole group of people seem to be fair game. So calling someone a loser is not ok, but saying the whole nation, including that user, is a loser is fair game.

This thread has probably run its course, as it certainly isn't discussing how the tariffs are impacting people's projects, as the OP intended. It's just posts about the Felon, rapist, narcissist, womanizer, groper, thin-skinned, orange, TACO, octogenarian/Old, deranged, stupid, mud-slinging adjective after mud-slinging adjective.

If the only thing that people want to do is vent their fear and hatred of Donald Trump, then I'd prefer that they go elsewhere.

I have no problem discussing tariffs and what's currently going on in trade as it relates to electronics and projects.

Not aimed at anyone at all. Just everyone.  My personal 2 cents on tariffs.  The radio shop has had a lot of increase in parts and new radios in the last several years. The recent price hikes probably reflect Tariffs at least in part.  These are kinda low end electronic parts nothing like the fancy chips that some gear uses, but I think it is reflective of the effects of tariffs. However, the sales of these things is NOT decreasing, we just keep raising the prices.

At work, we have raised prices 4 times in the past 3 years. Internally, it is noted that some of that is tariffs, much of it is inflation, and some of it is related to ebbs and flows in some jelly bean components that were hit because of the Nexperia.  Inflation is related to people's raises to keep them in line with increases in the cost of living. A lot of our market is also shifting to SaaS and software.

In my area of the market, I agree, sales are actually up. Significantly, to be honest, which is a surprise given the rise in costs.

I see the court has found in favor of refunds. At least in the case of the company(s) that filed grievances. I'm unclear if the court has ordered a direct refund of all tariffs to all companies, even if they haven't filed claims.

I imagine this will be a windfall for these companies, as I doubt they will refund their customers for their portion of the tariffs.

It's kind of weird that the groups most opposed to taxes in the U.S. would agree with tariffs which are a tax. However these same groups tend to say one thing but do the opposite so it comes as no surprise.

This is why I take exception to your arguments. They are filled with subjective personal views of people, groups, and nations. You don't know and are obviously not interested in the pursuit of understanding them, but simply wish to hypocritically criticize others.

So while you expressed some narcissism that I am infatuated with you or your posts, you simply aren't able to consider that it's frustrating to see you sling adjectives and mud at people as if you suffer from Tourette's syndrome or something.

The "groups most opposed to taxes "is a generalization and is indicative of ignorance. To gauge just how obtuse your characterization is, ask any given person whether they like paying taxes. My guess is that somewhere close to 100% of people dislike paying taxes for various reasons, and absolutely every single person has preferences for how tax money should be spent if collected.

Politics in every country is evolving. The general planks of the political groups in the US have changed and continue to change.  For instance, historically, Republicans generally wish to have most power in the hands of the states and a weak federal apparatus, while the Democrats historically often express the opposite view. But in any given instance, things suddenly change.  If you look at any given issue in the US, the stances of each party have and do change over time.  The same is true in Canada.

There are numerous recent issues where the Democrats wish to grant states the ultimate power, and the Republicans want to hand it to the Fed.  If you don't understand it, maybe try to pursue an enquiry until you do, instead of lashing out.

The continued posting here appears to be mud slinging only with no interest in reasonable discussion of arguments for or against, or self-introspection of your own views or beliefs.  I'm hopeful that you put me on your ignore list and don't read this, as I suspect you're not interested in anyone's perspective unless they agree with you.

And instead of "America First" this time it appears to be "Israel First". Seems like Mossad found some nasty things about the stable genius. The three USAF jets shot down by Katar alone represent a value of US$ 10E8 or more. And currently it seems like tariffs paid have to be paid back by the government..

Transliteration difference from Arabic.

"Q" is standard in English, but "K" is standard in German.

So you're saying they are talking about Qatar? Is he saying that Qatar shot down 3 USAF jets?  If so, that would be news.

I have heard that Kuwait accidentally shot down 3 USAF jets; an investigation is underway, and there is some mention that they may be paying for them.  I'm not aware of Qatar shooting down USAF Jets though.
