The rabbi replies: “Now sell the goat.”

The next week, the man returns beaming:
“It’s a miracle! The house feels spacious and peaceful!”[/i]

Nice story but not relevant.

If the data in the screenshot below is correct, there was a significant reduction in Chinese tariffs on US products even compared to Biden's era.

I apologize, I made a mistake. We didn’t sell the half of the goat; we rented it out, and it’s coming back in 90 days.

Of course, we need to factor out the undue influence that Big Pharma has on our physicians in their inducements to have them prescribe their products. But apart from that, the last thing we should be relying on to ensure good health outcomes is the Big Pharma--> ad agency--> patient--> doctor grapevine.
Oh, sure, the Big Farma and ad agencies are conspiring to poison you and bankrupt your insurance company.
No, they're conspiring to line their pockets at our expense.
That’s exactly what I said - they’re conspiring to extort money from your insurance company to the point of bankrupting it, unless, you are uninsured.
… and surprise - every other advertiser is doing exactly the same: marketing their fast food, alcohol, trucks, and other goods and services to line their pockets. It’s called a market economy. Why is that bad (aside from bourbon being bad for your health)?

Your goat story is cute but it doesn't fit here because the Chinese tariffs on US products are objectively lower now than during the Bidens administration.

As for the longer term, I would wait and see.

Anybody knows if the US de-minimis (waiver on small personal imports) was restored for imports from China?

For small maker's order, this is the biggest impact since it requires handling fees (e.g. to DHL) for the custom clearance.

Quote ...

"Trump slashes tariff on small parcels sent to US from mainland China, Hong Kong, to 54%

The new duties on small packages priced up to US$800 is lowered from 120 per cent, effective from Wednesday"

Aren't American drugs expensive because the market will bear almost any expense
I think you have a point. First week I come to United States, the crapper got jammed, we had to call a plumber. $600 for the job, same job I did in Russia myself, I had to buy a snake which cost me $8. Here the snake was industrial and they couldn't route it into proper pipe, because the system is hi-tech with bunch of bends, so they had to cut a hole in the drywall and install an adapter onto pipe. I was able to do the same job for $8 because a simple system with J-bend is going straight to massive 14 inch pipe, all I had to do is remove plastic J and feed the snake.

Everything is more expensive in America, because people can pay $600 for a jammed toilet.

P.S. Very useful tip. Pipes get clogged because of fats which stick onto them. Pour boiling water into sinks in the kitchen and in bathroom once a month. That will melt fats and keep the pipes clean. Especially in America, where pipes are cheap and small.

I didn't realize that you were an expert in cleaning out the crapper pipes?  Is that expertise why we allowed you into the country and why you came?

Could you please share a credible source confirming that China is also removing pre-Liberation Day tariffs? Because according to Bessent: “We have reached an agreement on a 90-day pause and substantially moved down the tariff levels. Both sides on the reciprocal tariffs will move their tariffs down 115%.”

I consulted my Chinese-made calculator, and it tells me that 145% (the US reciprocal Liberation Day tariff rate) minus 115% equals 30%, and 125% (China’s retaliatory tariff rate in response to the US reciprocal Liberation Day tariff) minus 115% equals 10%, which aligns with media reports. However, I haven’t seen any confirmation that China is also reducing Biden-era or Trump45-era tariffs.

Why do you expect to be taken seriously when your avatar has a baseball cap with Wagner logo on it?

And he has a home in Sochi, Russia. (cf USA flag and Miami Fl).

And given his relentlessly pro-Putin political statements.
There are lies, damned lies, statistics - and ADC/DAC specs.

But if the amount of the now 54% tariffs is less than 100$, the minimum surcharge is still 100$.

So something that you could buy @100$, now costs 200$.

Thank you. So, there is no mention of China removing any pre-2025 tariffs, such as those on US-made EVs and agricultural products, which zapta mentioned earlier.

We put our dollar signs before the number: $100.

In English, the dollar sign, pound sign, yen sign, etc. go before the number.
The abbreviations "USD", "GBP", "JPY", etc. go after the number.
Normally, only one of the two choices is used on an individual quantity.

Well, that's your bad then. Yeah, yeah, we know your Euro sign comes after. But the dollar sign comes before.

And BTW, please avoid being redundant, as I so often see even in mainstream journalism:

"$100 million dollars"

The official European Union guide to currency statements allows the euro sign both before or after the number, and is therefore not very useful.

Note that the sign "$" is also used in other countries besides the US for their currency.
This is confusing for Americans visiting Mexico.
The symbol originated in Spanish American usage.

You know, for all the anger about topics wandering hither and yon, they sometimes produce nuggets like Tim's that I would be unlikely to have known or realised otherwise, and I feel all the better for it.

When writing in Dutch but using a foreign coin like $, we also write the sign at the end.

So in Dutch we write 100€ but also 100$.
