Recently i read that Intel is in trouble and needs government aid to survive. The report was illustrated with an image of the failed building site of Intel in Germany. Don't know what happened to the money Intel received from the German government to initialize the project.
I can completely understand a worldwide opinion that the US is in trouble and causing trouble to everybody else. The strong dependence of financial markets all over the world on US markets is a good example for what i mean, as US don't have have their numbers in order and a large fraction of the PIB is fantasy business like speculation on the business of others - financial constructs that are considered illegal in some other countries.
An example: A steel factory needs a lot of energy and a break of 1 day essentially ruins their business. They make a contract with some fantasy energy supplier who promises to provide energy in case of emergency, except the provider doesn't have any plant. He is a one person business and he makes a contract with an insurance company who will pay him a large sum in case he needs to fulfil his contract with the steel factory. And so on. For some this type of business increases PIB, others consider it illegal.

Regards, Dieter

So I guess its an own Goal for the administration.  I hope the US people can persuade this to change.

The administration, their friends, and its financial backers will benefit because the import taxes will be used to fund tax reductions for the wealthy.

There is evidence the US sheeple can be tricked into believing that T'rump's policies will benefit them.

The continued insults of a nation of over 300 million is predictable but such a bore. No one takes you seriously. Propaganda at best, hate spreading at worst. Grow up.

What about the hundreds of millions of insults from your orange friend of the rest of the world?
He should grow up indeed instead of wining like a child that lost a toy.

Whataboutism?

Agreed, he should grow up. He's a horrible person, and the insults and language he uses are a disservice to the US and a disgrace to the presidency.
The only challenge to your claim is that I don't think he's been alive long enough to issue "hundreds of millions of insults". Perhaps that's due to your ignorance or an attempt to exaggerate the problem.

I appreciate your implied agreement. It's the most honest thing I've seen you do.

US tariffs were coming under either administration. Both tickets ran with the promise of tariffs.

Harris never gave any specifics to the plan and this was common across her platform. She wouldn't differentiate herself from the failed Biden administration (general public view in terms of economy) and had flip-flopped on some key issues without making any statements about why. And she suffers a horrible affliction of not being able to communicate succinctly.

The only thing we "know" is that she said she disagreed with Trump's approach of broad tariffs and would rely on targeted.
To my knowledge, Harris never spoke directly on the de minimis exemption. Both parties have strong ties to big companies that wanted this exemption closed.

All of this is to say, tariffs are here, they were going to be here either way and now we suffer through the changes.

If that's a general toss, I don't think anyone has made that argument. (strawman)
I have to add "Whataboutism" too as I assume based on example it must apply.

Maybe my statement was too broad for you?  The rest of the world has conspired against them, that includes the US unless I missed something.
The US, as well as every other nation in the world has a long history of getting into other countries business. It's funny that people criticize the current administrations pull back from involvement but then criticize the US for being involved. It's a loss either way.

But in the game of whataboutisim, the US is pretty far down the list of countries that have done the most horrifying of things.

Uh, this is news?

These countries have been conspiring against the US and, really, most of the rest of the world for a long, long time. Where have you been?
And now for the shocker. The rest of the world has been conspiring against these countries for a long, long time.

IRAN
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1953_Iranian_coup_d%27%C3%A9tat
The US and UK conspired together in that coup.

Vietnam
The US conspired with South Vietnam, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand and many others.

Cuba
The US was the only physical actor. And was supported by several Latin American and European countries.

To be fair. He's not the only one. I've played my part, along with tggzz, Sorama and I'm sure many others. It seems odd you're singling him out.

Back on topic: is there anything anyone else in the world can do to test this out? I have no intension of shipping anything to the US, at the moment. Has anyone else had any problems?

"Whataboutism"? WTF? ? ? ? You've got to be fucking joking here.

There's this thing called, for short "pot - kettle - black".

F'rinstance, the what? 9 years now of media frenzy and political upheaval centered on the supposed interference in our (the US's) elections by the Russkis. (Didn't happen in any case: "Russiagate" was ginned up by the DNC/NYT, et al, but that's not the point here.)

As if we--the U.S.--never interfered in the internal affairs of other nations. As if!
  • Iran: 1953 (Mossadegh)
  • Chile: 1970s (Pinochet)
  • Nicaragua: early 20th C (Walker), 1980s (Somoza)

  • Argentina (Peron)
  • Venezuela
  • Libya (country wrecked)
  • Iraq (country wrecked on entirely false premise [WMD])

  • Greece, post-WWII
That's just off the top of my head. The list is actually so long as to make a complete mockery of any notion of the United States of Amnesia being any kind of "honest broker" or "beacon of democracy" or any other such bullshit.

So enough with the equivocation and prevarication and just plain spouting nonsense ... not even sure what you ultimate point is, TBH, but at this point I'm starting not to give the smallest fraction of 1 shit.

For a reason... To be fair, others have gone off topic (including me I ll add) but noone has consistently stayed off topic like he did.. and it added nothing of value to Tariffs. Especially in the last 10 pages.
Look at his posts under his profile, his posts in the Tariffs topic consistently beat out other technical topics by a factor of atleast 2 to 1.

I understand getting carried way in the heat of the moment, but this is almost bordering on derailing the topic at hand.

Calm down there, boy. You really are dense. I mean, can't you read? I claimed that the US interfered with other countries; I never denied it , you jerk. This is the nonsense you spout. Your hatred is so thick you can't even understand English. I agreed; Was the first one to say I agreed that the US interferes and has for a long, long time.  You should apologize if you were person enough. I won't hold my breath.

You love to sit and passively-aggressively correct people in English and so on. This is very clear to people that you're just being an ass and trying to provoke people. Now, as much as you act as an English pedant, you don't even seem to be able to read and understand it.

I'd like to restate it since you don't seem to understand it.  "No one argued that the US doesn't conspire against other nations!"

Lastly, if you dislike the US and hate it so much, I'm willing to purchase you a one-way ticket out of it.

Now, Boy,  go chastise tggzz for starting the off-topic sub-thread.

If the rate at which I post is the problem these "people" see, then I'm very, very happy about it. It's hilarious.  Unless there's a rule on frequency of posting that I'm not aware of, it's just the miserable shaking their fist at the cloud.

I just imported a bunch of LEDs from Japan. I didn't have problems as the shipper marked it as "personal," and since it was very light and small, it went right through.  The import process will match the process that's been around for a long time for stuff over $800. I've done that process too, and it's painless. Though it does slow things down a small bit and does, obviously, come with more expense, including the duties and fees.

The change in de minimis kicked in on August 30.

de minimis used to be limited to $200.00 and the Obama administration bumped that up to $800. Obviously set to basically $0 now.
I agree about when the change kicked in. I mentioned the LEDs being marked as personal because that seems to be a possible route if the items are less than $100. The de minimis change still allows for:

"Letters aren't affected, for example, and people can send gifts worth less than $100 to each other."

So let me try and put it in a manner that will get through to your abnormally thick skull.
The topic of tariffs is interesting and I for one would like to hear others opinions about it, as I m sure others would.

That is, until a backwoods alabama inbred redneck, with a tiny willy, huge ego and an enormous arrogance of US of fucking A superiority, like you,  comes in and starts pissing all over the topic and turning into a wasteland.

How many more of your posts nay, crap buckets do you think will the moderators bear till they lock up the thread ?
Simon has already warned you once to go easy.

How hard is it to keep quiet and not respond to every other post without a comment attacking them and their posts?

I have kept away to see if it was me or my posts that you had a problem with, but no... you seem to have made it your personal mission attacking everyone who is not aligned with your POV and your posts do not contain anything of value. They are all retaliatory and accusatory and literally verbal vomiting shit over everyone else.

Now hush you little manchild.

This thread has literally devolved from tariffs to a pissing contest about everything but thanks to your overdeveloped fingers and uncontrollable mouth..
The last 10 pages are almost exclusively you spamming comment after comment without anything substantial..
If you are like this in real life, I would not want to be anywhere within a 100 km of you..

You are literally adding a huge amount of noise to the signal in the topic here..

For a reason... To be fair, others have gone off topic (including me I ll add) but noone has consistently stayed off topic like he did.. and it added nothing of value to Tariffs. Especially in the last 10 pages.
Look at his posts under his profile, his posts in the Tariffs topic consistently beat out other technical topics by a factor of atleast 2 to 1.

I understand getting carried way in the heat of the moment, but this is almost bordering on derailing the topic at hand.

LOL, "Fair my ass". You can't find a reasonable argument with my posts, but to offer that I post frequently!!?!?!?!  Bwhahahahaha

You are just playing team sports, and it's obvious. It's sad, and you should shut the f-up.

I love that you've looked at my numbers. That's a real fan right there. I must have really gotten under your skin. That can only be because you've been outed for ignorance and hatred.

But if you are so good at math, go calculate how many times I've posted over X time and look at the rate I've posted links to on-topic items, and talked about them. I did it, took me 30 seconds with AI and the numbers reflect what I expect.

Jump back in your team's clown car and carry your butt on. Show me your on-topic post rate while you're at it.

And do calm down and let it my numbers go. Enjoy your life while you have it. Go outside or something.

Q.E.D.

I'll leave posterity to argue what that "quod" was; clearly it isn't worth continuing here.

There are lies, damned lies, statistics - and ADC/DAC specs.

wonder how long it will be until customs etc cotton onto that loophole and start examining "personnel gifts" from certain locations more closely

Given the likely numbers of those, it seems unlikely they'll be able to check more than a tiny percentage of them

Doesn't really matter if they can't check more than a few of them - they'll eventually strike lucky. Normally the return on investment would be very low (they can't apply fines greater than the value of the goods, for instance), hence why the de minimis exists in the first place. But this is Trump and the loophole being exploited will mean he's lost (whatever game he was in) so that won't matter to him. He will likely push more resources in and either a huge blockage will occur or he'll bump up tariffs on 'offending' countries to punish them.

Grow up.

"Hey Cyclotron" you do know that you are attributing quotes that i never posted or said!   Honestly I'm at a loss that you are so angry at me for something i never wrote nor thought
