I’ve done the same. I had a box of transformers I regularly attacked for wire because I was too cheap to buy some
Nice hack that actually. Fancy fixing the USB-C on my T470?
Yes that was rather annoying that swap. I really liked the proper thinkpad keyboards mostly because of the real keys and the escape key being separate. Makes it easier to run vi then
Yes, it's always good to have Esc located so that it's easy to smash repeatedly during a vi session, without tripping a bunch of neighboring keys.

In other trivia, our thread now contains 2.8% of all posts and 0.28% of total views. Interesting coincidence in digits.
I should get out more
Ok so X201 screw it. I’m going to shove the naff battery and an SSD in it and bounce it on eBay. Can’t be arsed
. That may pay for 1/3 of a 34401A at some point

And he didn't even blink once.
We may not be able to take over the forum totally, but at least we can do it asymptotically.

Personally I found the vi(le) "key" :q! to be the most useful.
Morning all, hope you are well and that the Sun is Shining like it is here. Off to the Garden.
Slightly fluffy/bubbly Latte - out of practice.
Welp... I just bought an HP 8643A Sig Gen from the teetering-on-the-edge ebay guy linked here a few days ago. Threw a relatively low bid in; never thought I'd get it. $96 plus shipping. Holy crap, I'm out of my mind!

Some good advice on 3DP from the Hobby Hoarder...

+1 for vi

I wholeheartedly agree. I never understood why my colleagues insisted that 'd' for
delete (or 'dd' for
delete line) where hard to remember. SHIFT-CTRL-Numpad-7 for
delete line is so much more mnemonic ...
vi is a true object oriented editor. It's just that you name the operation before the object.
Well, impatient little me got a bit twitchy, so the 3478A is back together...
My painting efforts were less than perfect - but I think decent enough for a daily drive bench meter
Still have the side inserts to fit. Unfortunately, it didn't come with the top insert.
How it looks powered up...
With no space at the rear, I needed a right angle IEC cable - and the only one I have ....
Hmmm..... that little rubber boot...!
Fits fine without it.
So... do I:
1. Leave it off
2. Cut it down
3. Cover the BNC with something else
4. Find a different IEC cable
5. Mash it in anyway (... er ... no.)

The more common yellow BNC covers stick out about the same amount so that won't help. A different right angle IEC might help but for some reason they can be hard to find. I have several but only because they came with the equipment.
Seems items 1 or 2 would be your best bet. I would go with item 2.....cut down the cover so it fits tighter against the BNC.
Two 'affordable' HP 5326B Nixie Counters/DVM's
eBay auction: #124106627248
eBay auction: #303440226670
Back to the Shovel......
I have so many freq counters already but no nixies... so so tempting.
I succombed to that temptation, once, with my "military" Fluke DVM. Importantly there was little penalty: only £0.99 and no space lost since I'm content for it to live in the garden shed (it has lots of silica gel bags internally
)
