There is one thing shared between TEA and women's shoes: issues with feet.
Ok so no SA + TG required now. I managed to frig up a rat's nest to do the job.
3310A 0-18V sweep output -> [ Tek 2225 X input + TF2015 sweep input ]

TF2015 RF output -> 3dB attenuator -> filter -> AD8307 power sensor -> Tek 2225 Y input
6284A -> AD8307 power sensor
Have to sweep this really slow or the TF2015 oscillates wildly
Output. Horizontal is 10MHz/div starting at 70MHz on the left. Vertical is 4dB/division.
Setup is good to 500MHz
With an SA + TG all I do is connect the filter between the TG/out ports and press a button. Is the laziness worth the money?

This is not an SA but a cheap arse way of doing filter sweeps. SA is much more useful and does all the measurements for you. SA is better for filter design, oscillator performance measurement, mixer performance analysis and general RF design work than a scope.
One problem I need to solve is crystal filter design. This is a bastard with a scope and signal generator as the bandwidth of the filter I designed is only 400Hz. Even with the DG1022Z it’s difficult.
Think of the shitty FFT on a scope then make that span 0-1.5GHz and not be crap basically

Update on the Solartron 7150 meters.
Ran some extensive tests on their calibration and I'm pleased to say that are both within acceptable limits of calibration, one will need a re-cal soon I think and the good news is that I could do it myself via the front push buttons, just like the HP3468A and 3478A meters so that's an advantage.
The other issues with both meters, apart from the dodgy filter units, now replaced, was the LCD displays could be difficult to read in some light conditions. The display did have some yellow inefficient LEDs and they could only be seen in the middle of the night with the lights off, (the camera actually made these appear far better then they were in reality), not a good idea to work with no lights .
The solution was to replace these LEds with some ultra bright white ones and after a struggle these are now installed and the meters have been transformed completely now as these photos show. Overall was it a wise move to purchase these unseen from an online auction, I would say a resounding yes to that and unlike the Solartron 7045 meter I got off ebay last year, these two have far better plastics used in the construction of their cases.
As I also have several 7150s (untested yet), I have to thank you for showing me what I have to do. The bright white backlight is awesome!

Beautiful reed switches! (Not even speaking of the nixies.) I once had a desktop calculator with a VFD and a keyboard made of steel, magnets and reed switches. The best keys imaginable. Indestructible. Unfailing. And smooth action. It worked perfectly, but back then I was only interested in components and scrapped it for them.
Sometimes I wish I was only a bit wiser ... Sigh.

A word of warning, the feet on these are very small and if you attempt to stack them, heat build up becomes an issue. The typically draw around 17 Watts each but the heat can't dissapate easily with something stacked above it, such as in my case another 7150, the top one gets warm but the one below gets very hot. I'm adding feet which are 10mm tall to mine to give better air flow to wick away the heat.

Yeah now the swelling has gone down a lot it’s obvious which bit I hurt and it’s relatively minor thank goodness. Didn’t feel like it was when I did it!. It’s only the ligament that controls the rotation of the joint. I can work around that and am in minimal pain. Only on 200mg ibuprofen before bed now. If I twist it the wrong way I get a reminder that it’s still healing. This is trivial really. Not letting it get in the way. Soldering is a bugger though. Been doing that left handed. Back to work on Monday.
When I did my ankle a few years ago that took 8 weeks before I could put any weight on it. I think that’s more the sort of injury your son had. That was hell. It started out the same but just didn’t get better. Then my foot went purple after a week.
Looking at your HP427A voltmeters I was reminded of my Philips PM2454. As an AC millivoltmeter it's of a different kind, but it does have a nice, big movement, too.
So I decided to take a closer look at it and create some more Philips pr0n.

The 'lytics check found one deaf cap in the power supply, the rest were exceptionally good:
The pilot lamp wasn't dead - there wasn't one at all. As I had none that fitted, I removed the stern contact from the socket, sleeved one leg of a 3-mm LED and slid it through that small hole. The other leg was bent to make good contact with the outer metal tube. The LED is now supplied from DC. Since the cap is not very transparent, I let it run at 20 mA to get enough light (sorry for the lousy pic):
The PM2454 is mostly in agreement with my HP34401. I didn't bother to calculate whether it's outside its spec (and I also don't know about the HP - AC references are much less common and much more expensive than DC ones).
That shouldn't be a problem, as they will likely never get any real use. My current bench meters are 2 HP34401, and I'm quite happy with them.

I might need that mule myself. Don't expect to get all 5 of them working fine. Sacrificing the worst could allow 4 running fine.
With a clean bench and no important household chores to do, checking them out looks like something for tomorrow.

The cables in them are bastards, very stiff and could do with a little slack on them to allow them to sit flat when you unclip the top board and pivot it away to allow access to the shield and the the bottom power board. To make it worse they are not plug and socketed either, take care.

What replacement parts would you need to remove the DM44 permanently? Pull it off, remove the top bracket, dress up the cabling, done.

Yes that's it. It's actually not quite as straightforward as it looks and appears to be deep in hacks. There are a few component changes looking at the integration guide. The 10 turn delay TB pot is 2k on the non DM44 versus 20k on the DM44 for example. Need to review the process in reverse and select parts from the 465 to pull out. The 465 will be the mule and donate the case as I think the vertical is BER. The handle will be swapped over so the label is correct on the front as well.
