Nice variety, Spec!
I never knew that you have a Keithley 160, I had one of those for a while but it hardly got used so I flipped as is a bit big although nowhere near as big as your 196.
The posts go by fast around here these days. Here's the
post of the Keithley 160. The photo is attached as a thumbnail.
The height of the 160 is similar to the HP 3478A and Fluke 8840/8842, but much shorter (similar length as the Fluke A90 current shunt, which now sits on top of it). I just got it for fun — Nixies! — and, although it doesn't have a lot of resolution, it's got amazing ranges considering when it was made.
The 196 is definitely bigger. It would've been nice if Keithley had squeezed it in a 199-sized enclosure instead.
Your Greenlee DM-820A is in fact a Brymen 827s
Yes! In the US, that's how it's officially distributed. The green boot is a nice change, too.
No it disappears when gnif cocks up instead
Everything is ephemeral. Enjoy the moment. Just try not to do it on Facebook as it’s a sack of shit.
Later today I'm going to be making a short (under 2 hr) road trip. If the trip is successful I will be making the best score ever. It will even beat the $65 USD Tek 2465 score from last year in terms of value/goods received. I'm not going to reveal what it is just yet. When the transaction is complete I'll do a full reveal. If the deal goes belly up I'll reveal that too.
Stay tuned.
The deal was consummated and here it is. Tek 7904. 500MHz of analog goodness. Included in the deal is a 7A26 200MHz vertical, a somewhat uncommon 7A24 400MHz vertical which is genuine 50 ohm input only, and 2- 7B80 timebase. The price for all this goodness? $100 USD! The caveat: it doesn't power up. It has the classic switch mode tick-tick which is usually the caps. Most likely a bastard tant. Should be a straight forward fix.
As you can see it fits on my custom scope cart because I designed originally with a 4 slot 7000 series in mind. So the 3 slot 7603N has been kicked off. I'm also going to have to source some FET probes in order to utilize the 7A24 vertical plug-in.
To say I am tickled pink with this find is an understatement. It's like being reunited with an old friend. The last time I had my paws on a 7904 was sometime around 1977.
And here's the proof. The Craigslist ad.
I bought 4 auctions/packages labeled as 'semiconductor spares for HP and Tek instruments': 3 of transistors and one of diodes. The seller claimed that rare specimen are among the assortments, but there are also rather standard types.
I haven't got them in the inventory yet, so requests have to be direct.

Wow! That's an awesome beast. Hope it's just caps.
That’s a steal at $100. Nice one
After having my interest rekindled I bought myself a Hantek DSO 5102 and despite all the posts regarding the superior Rigol scope I still chose the Hantek as it was half the price of the cheapest Rigol I could find. It has more features than I will ever need and as I have many other items to save up for I simply couldn't justify the cost of the Rigol.
I also scored a nice example of a Tektronix 465B yesterday for the princely sum of £0.00p. Yes I was given one for free. It works perfectly though it did take a while to finally see the power switch. Not torn it apart yet but it won't be too long. I have a habit of opening things just to see whats inside (electronic or mechanical), I've been doing the same thing since I was about 7 or 8 years old.
Hoping to score another big brand analog scope pretty soon. It's seen very little use and will be fed into an industrial shredder if not rescued beforehand.
Just the start of what I hope to be a growing collection of lab gear.
Welcome, Sapper. If you spend too much time here, it's a collection that's bound to grow.

Wish I had a Craigslist like you do around here. Some wanker is selling a used Rigol 1054Z for $500. Normally, I laugh and move on but I felt required to let him know new ones are $150 cheaper. I did so kindly but I doubt he will take it that way. That's why I used a throw away email account.

I did find @Brumby an Oscillator a while back not far from him but it's a rarity.

A word of warning, the feet on these are very small and if you attempt to stack them, heat build up becomes an issue. The typically draw around 17 Watts each but the heat can't dissapate easily with something stacked above it, such as in my case another 7150, the top one gets warm but the one below gets very hot. I'm adding feet which are 10mm tall to mine to give better air flow to wick away the heat.

...FurkBook is a toxic wastedump. I pulled the plug there years ago when I discovered what colossal timesink it is; long before we discovered what an utter fuckstick Zuckerberg, et al were being with people's personal data.
The other points that are of considerable relevance to an archive of information are:
- can someone google to locate the information
- will the information be accessible in 5 years time
Farcebook fails both of those, badly. Certainly I wouldn't waste my time generating information for it.
If it's Social Media, then you are the product being sold. They are a content aggregator where you create the content. That's true of eevBlog as well, in the strictest sense.
The difference is that is that here your personal information stays yours up to whatever point you allow, and in general, the SNR is MUCH better. There is real value in that.
That is also true, but is a separate point. The stuff that I post here doesn't disappear at the whim of an algorithm designed to do who knows what.

1000x this. The internet is not an endless warehouse of our history online... it was a different country when my wife and I were courting on it 20 years ago, and it is yet a different world now. Heck... pretty much the only thing that remains from then is my HoMail account, and they keep trying to get me to give that up for a "newer, fresher look" that I don't want or need. All the domains I used to own... used to frequent... gone with the hosting agencies they used to live on. You know, unless you get lucky and they scraped a layer or two for the WayBack Machine.
Also 1000x this about FurkBook. Made of shit by a piece of human shit. They've suborned so many things that were so promising... Oculus Rift just being the latest in a long line of truly groundbreaking tech to be ingested by Zuckerburg's Shit Golem.

Yes. Test gear does not show up very often down under - and when it does you actually do think twice about travelling for 4 hours to pick up a $20 sign gen. Just adding in the fuel cost makes the trip a dumb idea - but you do think about it for a moment.
I did find @Brumby an Oscillator a while back not far from him but it's a rarity.
To be fair, Bean did find more than that - but I was only successful in securing the sig gen (an HP 8656B) plus second one missing a few parts.
That was an exceptional event.

Nice grab. I looked at it before but never noticed this elaborate calibrator function/module. Now I looked around TekWiki and I'm baffled: the highest performing analogue storage mainframes don't have it and neither does the 7104 nor the 7854. Does anyone have an idea on which rationale it was assigned to the 7904, the 7844 and the 7704 (but not the 7704A) and omitted on the others? I would have thought this to be a feature they all could have put to good use and also something Tek could have pointed out as a special advantage!

Tek eliminated it on the 7904A too and went back to a more simpler calibrator. I don't know why.

Didn't you say you were originally from Jersey? Well you should have never left. That's where the deals are. There's a bunch of assorted scopes on there right now. This 7904 was in Vernon which is about a 100 miles round trip for me. Was absolutely worth it.
As much as I want to tear into this 7904 right now and get it running it's going to sit for a while. Other priorities at the moment. First I need to do a few minor things to complete the bathroom redecorate. That's going to take all day Saturday. Sunday is a hamfest in Middletown, NY. I don't know if it's outside or inside because the weather forecast is shit. Rain and cool. Guess I better bring an umbrella.
There's two other TEA projects I want to finish first before working the 7904. Of course I'll post pron once I open it up. I did peek inside and it's extremely dusty/dirty from being in a thankfully dry cellar but with wood working tools. It's going to need a lot of cleaning. I'll be testing each plug-in on the 7603N to make sure they are OK.
Just an observation as an outsider the the USA there is very little Test Gear on Evilbay as a % coming from the East Coast and in particularly the NE
Is it a lack of Bulk Sellers, lack of industry or a tightass thing that sees Craigslist being used?
